An Antidote To Invisibility was commissioned by the Exeter Northcott Theatre & Archive to explore these institutions through the lens of representation, with members of local groups associated with the theatre. The piece was to be shown as part of the Stories We Tell Heritage Festival.

The final collaborative artwork included an experimental documentary film set inside a working model theatre, forming the stage background. Either side of the theatre hung a large portrait photograph.

The film opens with a craft workshop, making figures using images from the archive. Discussion was sparked in the making of these figures: on the past and the future of theatre, and whose voices are heard within it. The film also includes a spider’s narration (trapped in the archive), and three ‘character metamorphoses’ in the dressing rooms backstage.
